Stansted Airport Terminal

In 1943, Stansted Airport was initially a US Air Force airfield during WWII. After the war, in 1945, the airfield was taken by the government to be used as a commercial airport.

It wasn’t until 1966 that Stansted Airport was plenty used by a holiday charter operator as an alternative to the high costs to operate from Gatwick and Heathrow.

In 1969, after the decision of making Stansted Airport the third airport of London to lessen the incoming congestion in both Gatwick and Heathrow, the first terminal building of the airport began service and was expanded in the following years.

Nowadays, Stansted Airport has a single passenger terminal composed by three Satellite buildings.

Stansted Airport is also a base for international flights to over 170 destinations to Europe, North Africa, North and Central America, and Asia; serving as a base for many European low-cost airlines, featuring Ryanair.

Domestic and International connections

To connect to any other flight in Stansted Airport, it is compulsory to pass though passport control and immigration.

To connect from a domestic flight to an international flight, you’ll need to pass through a special immigration control and show your passport.
